about

People sometimes want someone to ‘move on’ quicker than they are able. Sometimes we might want ourselves to move on quicker than we are able. This is a song to soothe that conflicted soul.

The psalms are full of songs that spend time in grief, struggle and questioning. In fact, asking God ‘why?’ is a question of faith. Like the desperate father in Mark 9:24 who says to Jesus ‘I believe - help me in my unbelief!’ God is the only one we can run to. Trusting Him does not mean that all struggle disappears. It means trusting Him through the struggle. And he will deal with us gently, as we need to deal with ourselves.

“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out.”
Isaiah 42:3

lyrics

It’s ok to cry dear heart
It’s ok to find you’re lost
It’s ok to wonder how many bridges
You can cross
It’s ok to weep
From the depth of your soul
It’s ok to not know how in the world
You can go on

So I will cry
And ask the Lord why
He has to take, so precious a one
And leave me behind
So I will cry
And ask the Lord why
Oh, I do believe, but I cannot see
Speak softly to me

It’s ok to sit my dear
And have cried all your tears
It’s ok to feel numb and cold
And stare out your fears
It’s ok to not feel whole
With your life ripped apart
It’s ok to know there’s hope
But not to feel it in your heart

So I will cry
And ask the Lord why
He has to take, so precious a one
And leave me behind
So I will cry
And ask the Lord why
Oh, I do believe, but I cannot see
Speak softly to me

I know there’s hope in his wounds
But mine still bleed
Speak softly to me

May his tears mix with mine
It won’t always be
Speak softly to me
